Karma is not so much what happens to us, but how we are. And what we do.
It's our internal mindscape.
The way we choose to live and perceive life around us.
And everything that happens to us, is the consequence, the repercussions of the intent.
For example, if I were to generate a desire.
Now I must be born as a human to fulfill that desire.
But along with being born, comes Birth, Sickness, Aging, and Death.
And the 8 winds.
Prosperity, Decline, Disgrace, Honor, Praise, Censure, Suffering, and Pleasure
These are the consequences of the original seed, which is the desire.
Now again, all our lives are conditioned by the last and most potent desire from our previous life.
If I've been primarily a person full of noble thoughts, I will be born into a suitable family.
And if I've been a person full of thoughts of anger and hate, then that would be the kind of family I'd be born into.
So again, the family we are born into is a repercussion of the original intent.
Similarly, the kind of person I gravitate to, and the kind of person who I allow to gravitate to me, is also defined by the kind of person I am.
No matter what goes on around us, it is completely our choice on how to perceive and react, whether to allow ourselves to be effected, or to impact the things around us in a positive way.
